Russian lacquered box Whimsical Forest was created by Mstera artist G.E. Kapralova. Her works are always notable for fantastic representation of different subjects and bright, multicolored painting. Having painted this unusual scene, artist continues her series of works showing fantastic creatures who live in grass and forests. These creatures, blue gnomes, dwarfs fairies, etc. For instance, the gnome depicted here hunts for mushrooms surounded by curious flower fairies. This theme is a favorite with all types of collectors. The scene is painted in bright, bold tones. Green, blue and yellow tones dominate here. Gold paint details the plants and the gnome's costume. The landscape and the gnome's costume are splendidly detailed.The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition, and the box sits on a flat bottom. The artist signature, the village of Mstera can be found right underneath of composition. This is a festive and light-hearted piece by a young and talented artist! The size of this box is 7.5" x 7.5" x 1.6"
