This amazing Russian lacquered jewelry box "Tzar Saltan" was hand painted in the unique Palekh style by famous artist Kovalyov N.V.
The art of Palekh is known all over the world. The elegant black lacquered artwork is based on popular and enchanting fairy tale by Alexander Pushkin "Tzar Saltan " or "Swan Princess"
The size of this masterpiece is very impressive - 14" x 11" x4.5". But what makes it unique are the five painted compartments inside the box. Each compartment has it's own lid and shows different scenes from the story. This masterpiece is painted inside out and all around on all sides with traditional egg tempera paints and decorated with intricate golden ornaments. This is a vintage box painted in late 1990's which makes it more desirable and valuable. It is truly a museum quality box and would make a great addition to one's collection.
