Russian lacquered box "The Firebird" was painted in the village of Palekh by a talented artist M. Denisenko.
This traditional palekh box features an episode from the fairy-tale "Ivan Tsarevich and the Firebird". Here we can see Ivan Tsarevich and Princess Elena riding home and their loyal freinf Grey wolf is running besides them.
Ivan Tsarevich holds the golden cage with the Firebird. He has successfully fulfilled all the tsar's impossible tasks, and now he is on his way to the native kingdom. The exception is the faces of both characters entirely painted in oils.
The box is constructed from paper-mache.The lid is hinged at the top. The work is signed by the artist.
The size of the lacquer box is 6.25" x 5.75" x 1.7"
