Russian lacquered box "Magic Carpet Ride" was painted in the village of Fedoskino by a talented artist Serov in 1995.
This splendid box features an episode from the fairy-tale "Ivan Tsarevich and the Firebird". Here we can see Ivan Tsarevich and Princess Elena flying on the magic carpet. Ivan Tsarevich holds the golden cage with the Firebird in it. He has successfully fulfilled all the tsar's impossible tasks, and now he is on his way to the native kingdom.
The black background has been chosen by the artist to create a starry night sky. Mother-of-pearl creates brilliance of the full moon, produces shimmering light that comes from the fire-bird, and shines through the Princess's costume. The magic carpet and the figures of Ivan Tsarevich and Princess Elena are painted in bright gold and silver paints, and detailed with oils. The exception is the faces of both characters entirely painted in oils. Silver paint is also used to paint the shinning stars. Brilliantly done!
The box's sides are painted with scenery of passing by lands, islands, forestes and towns and decorated with beautiful gold ornamentation.
The box is constructed from paper-mache.The lid is hinged at the top, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed and dated (1995) by the artist. Theis vintage masterpiece is in very good condition.
The size of th lacquer box is 10.5" x 7.2" x 2.25"
