This traditioanal Russian lacquer box "Forest stream" was painted in the town of Fedoskino by a talented artist Barabashkin V.
Peaceful forest landscpe is painted in dark green, yellow and brown tones. The main focal point of the composition is small creek with water so clear that you can see each pebble on it's floor.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition. Inside the box is divided by two compartments, possibly for playing cards. It is signed and dated (2001) by the artist at the bottom of the composition in black oil paints. The size of the artwork is 4.25" x 5.5" x 1"
