This colorful box has been painted by the famous Fedoskino artist Vladislav Maslov. The subject of this box is a Russian fairy-tale "Baba-Yaga". The composition shows Baba-Yaga cooking her magic potion. She is throwing toadstools, toads, snakes, different insects and herbs into a big pot. Close to her the artist depicts the animals and the subjects that are always in Baba-Yaga's use: a black cat, a snake, a mortar and a broom. The composition is bright and multicolored. The colors are based on the golden and green earth tones. The figures of Baba-Yaga and animals are painted with great detail. The lacquer box decorated with a golden lines design representing branches of the enchanted forest all over on the sides. The box is made out of high quality paper-mache and has unusal shape with drower in front and a double opening lid on top. The miniature is signed with the name of the artist, village and titleand dated 2018. Baba-Yaga is the oldest character of the Slavonic mythology. Originally Baba-Yaga was the goddess of death; people imagined her as a woman with the snake tail who guarded the entrance into the other world and accompanied the souls of dead people into the Kingdom of the Dead. Baba Yaga is the most famous figure in Russian fairy tales that represents evil. It is a character of such fairy-tales as "Marya Morevna", "Princess Frog" and many more.
