This very colourful Russian lacquer box "Gypsy Fortune Teller" was painted by talented Fedoskino artist Yakunin V.A..
It depicts a gypsy lady telling fortune to the three Russian Maidens. One of the girls gave the fortune teller a hand to do the reading while her girlfriends listen to her predictions.
Old woman and girls are dressed in traditional folk dresses of that time period. Gold, red and blue colors of the costumes are contrasting against deep green forest background.
The box is made from paper-mache. The edges of the lid and its sides are decorated with golden ornaments. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer while the interior is completed with red lacquer. The lid is hinged to the left of the composition and the box rests on four small legs. The work is signed with the artists name and village of Fedoskino. This beautiful artwork is vintage and in excellent condition. The size of the lacquer box is6.25 x 8 x 2.25"
