Museum quality Russian nesting doll "Winter Fun" is one of a kind work of art. This exquisite matryoshka is handpainted by famous and amazingly talented artist Stepkaeva from St. Petersburg, Russia. The doll depicts Winter scenes from rural life of small town in central Russia long time ago. The tradition of riding troykas- three horses pulling the sled with people, goes back many centuries, but is popular in modern times too. Each doll is painted with very fine detail and lovingly decorated all over with sparkly silver and golden flowers and ornaments. This Russian beauty is painted in Fedoskino style which is seen before only in lacquered boxes art. Each doll of this beautiful set is hand made from different wooden pieces of linden wood dried in the open air for several years.The smaller dolls are super thin and require fine precision by the wood turner to be made without braking the wood. This unbelivably gorgeuous and majestic matryoshka is definitely a must for a collector.
The doll is impressive18 inches tall(45.72 cm).
Matrena is covered with multiple layers of smooth shiny lacquer and is signed by the artist on the bottom of the largest doll.
