This fantastic Russian Lacquer Box is titled "Baba Yaga". This lacquered box was painted one of Fedoskino's top artists, Tuvaev. This box is fully painted on both sides and tells the story of one of Pushkin's most famous fairy tales. Tuvaev paints in a very distinct and unusual style, almost cartoonish like. He paints with great amounts of detail and takes advantage of great use of mother of pearl and gold leaf. Almost the entire front of this box is painted on a solid piece of mother of pearl which adds a great texture and amazing shine to this box. On the back he uses pearls as little stands for the box and also uses some pearls as decorations in other parts of the box. This is a very unique and unusual piece and is perfect addition for any collection. The size of this Russian lacquered box is 3.5" x 4.5" x 1", it was painted in Fedoskino, signed by the artist and made in 2008.
