This exquisite Russian lacquered box was painted by the very famous Russian artist Maslov from the village of Fedoskino, Russia. The title of this box is "Baba Yaga" which translates into "The Witch" who is features in almost all of Russian folk lore. This box is painted in great detail and it is painted on a half sphere. Painting on such a surface is very hard for the artist, because basic proportions are often not done properly. However, Maslov does an excellent job of painting this box in perfect proportion, using great amounts of detail, and unique color patterns. The box is also uniqe in that the surface is not completely flat but some areas are accented by raised papier mache. The size of this gorgeous Russian lacquered box is 4" in diameter and 2.5 in height.
